There are numerous people commenting that John Mark Karr (the person who has confessed to killing JonBenet Ramsey) and Lee Harvey Oswald are near identical doubles.




Making things better, both appear to travel with no visible means of support, both issue conflicting stories about their backgrounds, and both have wives who claim that their husbands couldn't have done the crime.

This of course goes back to the infamous multiple Oswalds that were running around Dallas in 1963.

They both have receeding hairlines? That seems to be about the limits of the resemblance as far as I can tell... (Seriously, Oswald has a much rounder face, pronounced chin, and thick neck. Karr has a much long face, squarer jaw, and a long/thin neck. Not dead ringers at all.)

I do have seroius doubts about whether Karr actually did it, especially after it emerges that he meticulously researched the killing. I would not be surprised to discover that the information "not known to the public" tha the has reportedly revealed is atually somehting that showed up in an obscure publication that he read and the police either missed or forgot about.

What tweaks me is that he is a pedophile in Thailand. That nation's days as a haven for kiddie sex are over, and the punishments are inventive and final. I think Mr. Karr needed a fast way out of town, and confessing to a murder in the US fit the bill. Especially with his ex-wife lining up to state that he wasn't in Colorado on that day.

I will withhold judgment about that until we see either proof his ex-wife isn't lying to cover her own ass for aiding and abetting after the fact or evidence he was nowhere near Coloraod that day.

I actually can't see the Thais giving him up to the US if they had an actual case against him there. But I could certainly buy it as attention-seeking behavior.

I gather there are inconsistencies between his confession and the known facts of the killing - for instance, I read that the confession says he seized her on her way home from school, when in fact she did not attend school on the day of the killing because it was Christmas Eve. That seems odd if he really has researched the case. I wonder whether in fact the Thai authorities have some reason for wanting to extradite him rather than deal with him themselves, and have written the confession for him?
