Limbaugh Arrested in Fla. on Drug Charges

Rush Limbaugh was arrested Friday on prescription drug charges, law enforcement officials said.

Limbaugh turned himself in to authorities on a warrant issued by the state attorney's office, said agency spokeswoman Teri Barbera.

The conservative radio commentator came into the jail at about 4 p.m. with his attorney Roy Black and was released an hour later on $3,000 bail, Barbera said.

The warrant was for fraud to conceal information to obtain prescription, Barbera said.

Let's assume for a moment that this ends with Rush being guilty.. he either pleads or is found guilty at trial. Care for his opinion on what should happen to drug abusers?

And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. Won't make any difference. Anyone who seriously considers Rush Limbaugh to be a moral authority in the first place is probably of the school that holds that moral authorities are not themselves obliged to behave morally. What's important is that moral authorities issue the proper dictates to the rest of us - their own behavior is irrelevant.

People won't suddenly acquire a moral compass just because the guy they follow has been shown to lack one. They'll just slather on another layer of rationalization for the ethically vacuous positions they already hold. Which is why the hunt for hypocrisy is not terribly productive.

I'm afraid that he will get "The White Guy" punishment, ie a slap on the wrist. Even though this is Not the First Time he's been caught at this, and did rehap once already.

Never mind that he thought the law was being too gentle on the Movie Stars caught on drugs, that they should go to jail. His Lawyers will demand the same treatment. Witness that he is out on $3000 bail. According to him, Druggies shouldn't even be allowed out on bail. But there he is and on a real low one at that!

Here's additional information on the matter at hand:

The actions taken today are as follows:

· The State Attorney has filed a single charge of doctor shopping with the Court. The charge is being held in abeyance under the terms of an agreement between the State and Mr. Limbaugh.

· Mr. Limbaugh has filed a plea of “Not Guilty” with the Court.

The formal agreement between Mr. Limbaugh and the State Attorney will be filed with the Court on Monday. The terms of the agreement are substantively as follows:

Ø Mr. Limbaugh will continue in treatment with the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years.

Ø After Mr. Limbaugh completes an additional 18 months of treatment, the State Attorney has agreed to drop the charge.

Ø Mr. Limbaugh has agreed to make a $30,000 payment to the State of Florida to defray the public cost of the investigation.
