More job hunting!

Dispatcher

Resume emailed out.

I'm finding it interesting; reading the job solicitations makes me wonder if the biggest need in Santa Clara County isn't for copy editors. I'm seeing so many basic spelling and grammar errors that a simple re-reading of the copy before hitting send would have caught. And these are for some fairly high-powered jobs! An add for attorneys claimed that the new hire would work in a "fast-paced, exsighting office."

Spell check, people!

About 10 years ago I temped at a large hotel in downtown Vancouver that was advertising for a Purchasing Manager. My guesstimate was at least $50K for the salary. You should have seen the quality of resumes sent in. :O If I'd had anything to do with the selection process there would have been VERY few that actually made it past me. Let's see, there was:

* Copy of copy of copy sent in
* Copy with large black line down the entire page
* Cover letter with a huge whiteout block over the name and address of the person it had PREVIOUSLY been addressed to
* Cover letter written on a tiny "from the desk of" pad of paper
* On coloured paper (and no, I'm not talking the nice stuff. I'm talking ORANGE)

And those are just a few examples. :S
