Curse this sense of civil responsibility!

I'm on jury duty this week, which means checking the website each night to see if I've drawn the short straw. I'm one of those sad people who actually accepts that jury duty is part of being a citizen, and doesn't automatically try to get out of it.

Doesn't mean I have to like the idea of giving up time at work for the princely sum of $15/day.

(WinAmp wins again.)

It isn't dishonest or being a bad citizen if you just let the judge know that you need your wages, and would take a financial beating to actually serve.

Not in Canada. If you are, for example, self-employed or otherwise have a GOOD reason for not being available you can get out of it. But beware those who don't show up 'cuz they'll send the sheriffs out after you! :D

I've actually been called for jury duty twice and both times I got pay from the gov't AND from work. Here you can't be docked pay for it, they HAVE to give you the day off with pay. At least that's how it *used* to be the last time I was called.
