Five (and a half) back!

Giants win again! The heat is rising in the NL Worst, threatening to break through the frozen pond of mediocre baseball that we've seen all year.

San Francisco Giants: 3
Arizona Diamondbacks: 2

Read the story, if you are so inclined.

Randy Winn is still impressing me. This means that he'll slip on a rubber duck in the hotel tomorrow, breaking half his bones and tearing ligaments on the rest.

And you know what's next? Here's a clue...

BEAT LA!
BEAT LA!
BEAT LA!

GO GIANTS!!!

Just out of curiosity, what's your impression of Mike Matheny at this point in the season?

Great defensive catcher, and I think he's the reason our younger pitchers (Lowry and Cain in particular) are coming along so well.

He's doing better at the plate than we were told to expect. .252 average, .310 OBS, .423 SLG with 11 homers and 51 RBIs. Good numbers for the number 8 slot in the line up.

Speaking of Mr. Matheny...

Matheny catching credit for staff's improvement (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/09/05/SPG2DEH5MG1.DTL&feed=rss.giants)

That's cool. I figured it would take a little time for him to get used to a new staff. Fortunately, Yadier Molina has done a good job for the Redbirds, so losing Matheny wasn't as big a blow as I originally feared.
