Frustration

Why is it impossible to find filk lyrics on the web? I know some artists, notably [livejournal.com profile] filkertom put up all their lyrics, but in other cases it's like these artists are treating their songs like the secret formula to Coke!

In a thread on alt.atheism, I realized that Teddy Bear's Ritual (I think that's the title.. Teddy Bears summon Cthulthu, remember that one?) would be a perfect addition. So I looked for the lyrics. What I was planning to do is:

1. Put the title and artist information

2. Quote the first verse.

3. Link to the rest of the song.

But I can't find it anywhere, except for cryptic mentions on decade old threads from various filk lists. A little searching showed that find most filk was nigh impossible.

IMNSHO, filk artists are hurting themselves with this tactic. Folks with hearing trouble like me often can't understand all the lyrics at a filksing, and want to be able to look up a single song. Being told I need to buy the NEFSA Hymnal, Vol MMCLXXII, to get it turns me off from filk.

Just a little rantage from a sick and frustrated penguin.

Well, in my case

It's laziness/priorities on my time. The stuff doesn't get up there by itself. Other than that, I have no objections, but then I'm not trying to make a profit on it, either. Some people are more protective of their copyrights, as in "Why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free?" I thought Eli Goldberg (Promethius Music, and heaven knows if I've spelled either right; my mind is MIA today from something head-coldish) had a bunch of MP3s available somewhere.

That would be the Virtual Filksing.
