Computer went thud for a day or two, so no updating for me. Back now. Yay!

kshandra continues to prep for Burning Man. I know she loves it, but it's driving me nuts. My urge to take over and do a load plan for her is nigh-overwhelming.

GURPS is here! WOW Very high-quality book, hardback, full-color art, well-written and edited, and they've made the system truly universal now. As I read through the characters section, I came up with weird ideas and looked to see how I could do them. Each time, I had an good grip on the mechanics within five minutes.

Oh, for some reason the "fix" of the computer ate my LJ client. It opens, but vanishes into the ether. Must see if Kiri can figure out that one.

Is it slanted toward the fantasy side or can you create Lucas Trask and the Captain of the Free Trader Beowulf?

Right now, I'm leaning on spending my cash on GT:Nobles first.

If I were her I would let you do a load plan, because I know how bad I suck at it, but I'm not her. If by that you mean planning how to get all the required items from point a to point b without losing or forgetting any and maximising the use of storage space in the vehicles.

Ah, Burning Man. Have wanted to go for about a decade now. Some friends of mine drove all the way from Montreal and made a film about it, called Black Rock Burning (http://www.blackrockburning.com). Very cool.

Unfortunately Burning Man collides temporally with Worldcon, and I'll be in Boston for that. Maybe next year, if I have the dough. Gah, there's a choice: Glasgow for Worldcon, or Burning Man...?

Must be off to the secret laboratory to work on my cloning machine...

Heh. I managed, somehow, to convince dafydd to give up the Burn for ConJose.

Well, sort of.

He went out to the desert two days before the event started (he's with Emergency Services, so there's always stuff to do), and came home the day before ConJose.

I'd love to be able to go to WorldCon more often. But the advantage of Burning Man is that it doesn't change location every year, and the present location is one I can drive to in eight hours....

If you want to write up a load plan for me, you are MORE than welcome to. Just understand that I may not use all, or any, of it in the final assembly. ;-)

It's actually generic. I found no bias to fantasy or SF, in fact, the system makes it easy to do Lucas Trask, Free Trader captain if you want. The big advantage over 3e is that where that game had all sorts of special cases from different worldbooks; 4e has distilled all that down into one game.

Take the "Intrinsic attack" advantage. This is a generic ranged attack. It can be a dragon's firey breath, the surgically implanted SMG in your arm, or your mutant eye beams. It's much like the Hero system in this regard, but better.

Tomorrow I'm going to take a swipe at designing Sir Arameth Gridlore. I'll post the results.

Um...in my head? :-P I'm waiting to see if dafydd makes it online tonight, because I want/need to ask him if he wants/needs me to bring the shade structure I just borrowed from C&P tonight. That's going to make a BIG difference as to how much I'm putting in the car and where.

Apart from that, here's what I know is going in:

• Two tents (mine and E's - he's flying into Reno, and is already checking an arseload of stuff)
  
• The army duffle w/sleeping bags
  
• dafydd's Therm-A-Rest, rolled and bagged (about the same size as the tents)
  
• My folding chair (can you look in the front closet and tell me if the sofa's there, or do I have to ask dafydd if he has it?)
  
• The gazing ball from yohannon
  
• My clothing duffle (about the same size as the sleeping bag duffle)
  
• The cooler (which I want closest to the wagon hatch so I can dump ice in it when I leave)
  
• The card table (under everything else, naturally)
  
• A couple other small bags and/or boxes of foodstuffs (I expect to put these in the passenger seat)
  
• Two rugs (folded & rolled, no bigger than the duffles)
  
• A box of solar lights (about the size of a box of printer paper)
  
• Bag of bike decorations (Powell's canvas bag)
  
• Bag of tentstakes, etc. (tanker's bag)

I'm sure I've forgotten something...ask me again when I've had the chance to take everything out of its packaging and actually get an idea of the space I need....
