Restraining Fist of Death.

The level of idiocy on the Traveller Mailing List is about to push me out the door.

People whinging about their favorite edition of Traveller not being supported, even though it ceased publication in 1987, people whinging about not wanted to have to do any work to use game books, personal insults, complaints about "too many words" in posts explaining complex scientific concepts!

That, and movie reviews, game reviews, and all sorts of Off-Topic crap. A hell of a lot of this can be traced to one idiot.

I'm this close to being off a list I've been on since the first day I had Internet access, about ten years ago.

What is going to happen is I'm pulling back for a while. And I may killfile two certain idiots (Certain idiots? Yes, I'm quite certain they're idiots...)

Going to go take my aggravation out on a brownie. Fear for it.

Based on a comment you made at BayCon, I'm quite certain that I know who one of the miscreants is. I strongly suspect that the other is the recent target of certain "list etiquette" posts (pertaining to constant thread-name changing)....

In both cases, I'd say you're quite justified in plonking them. Please don't leave the TML, though. You remained despite C**f; I hope that you can stick around despite these two second-stringers.

Make use of that kill file!

But stay on the list. You're part of the signal I read the list for.

Some folks are just not rational. They can redesign entire new task systems for CT, but can't be bothered to do a few converts in GT:GF? Unless you really do want to get muddy, leave that pig alone...

I too got feed up with wading through loads of stuff I couldn't be bothered to read (especially now that I'm working 12 hour shifts at the factory). My solution was to filter the five worst producers of noise into a different folder. That way I can read the TML and get most of the signal (including replies to filtered emails) and get a good idea which threads I might want to save from the mighty "delete all emails in folder"-button. You might want to give it a try.

The French word guy is certainly verbose, without much to say, but nor sure who the other one who is bothering you is. For me some of the highlights of the TML have been Off-Topic posts. Since my exile from civilization, and the severe lack of playing time (for Traveller and pretty much everything else) it's nice to hear some banter of the geek sort. I suspect this is what's bothering you, but for some of us it's almost the best part of the TML.
Add to that is the fact that there is very little going on in Traveller right now, G:T books being months apart, and almost noone on the TML even bothering to comment on T20, much less admitting to playing it, there is little but old topics to discuss, ad nauseum.
