Year end wrap-up meme

[livejournal.com profile] benkenobigal dropped this as she staggered home after the party.

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before? Wrote stories and scenes as an exercise.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I kept a few. I'm not really in the mood to make resolutions, they put pressure on you to push for specific goals that might not be compatible with reality. I'm sticking with my long term goals.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nope. Not that I know of anyway.

4. Did anyone close to you die? No.

5. What countries did you visit? I was a stay-at-home

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003? A contact for GT: Imperial Navy, spending money, a guest slot at BayCon, a visit with [livejournal.com profile] eleri, a new bike (that one is in the works)

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? October 4th. Giants eliminated from postseason play.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Getting a job, writing, getting onto the bike and riding (until the thing was stolen...)

9. What was your biggest failure? Taking so damn long to get a job.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Amazingly no! Other than colds and the usual intestinal distress, I was disgustingly healthy this year.

11. What was the best thing you bought? Probably American Empire: The Victorious Opposition alternate history crack, I know, but I'm a Turtledove slut.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? This is an odd question. [livejournal.com profile] kshandra continues to get a better center, but I'm not sure what "celebration" is supposed to mean in this context.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? The Oakland Raiders. And my sister. She's become a Republican. Ewww...

14. Where did most of your money go? Straight to [livejournal.com profile] kshandra! She runs the money in this house. She' got a better head for it. When I had money, mostly into books and music.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The Giants, biking.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003? Another Postcard by Barenaked Ladies. Because I will never get it out of my head.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. happier or sadder? Happier. Employed, writing, things are looking up!
ii. thinner or fatter? The same. Skinny as a rail.
iii. richer or poorer? Moderately richer, in that we live in a better class of hovel.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Writing, socializing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Procrastinating.

20. How will you be spending Christmas? (A little out of date here) Well, next Christmas I'll spend with family and friends.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with? My mom.

22. Did you fall in love in 2003? With [livejournal.com profile] kshandra again everyday.

23. How many one-night stands? I'm too old for that sort of thing.

24. What was your favorite TV program? CSI, Survivor: Pearl Islands

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Not really.

26. What was the best book you read? Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Captain Tractor, a Canadian Celtic folk band

28. What did you want and get? AC/DC Back in Black

29. What did you want and not get? the trip to NYC, GURPS Traveller: Starships

30. What was your favorite film of this year? The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 37. [livejournal.com profile] kshandra and I went to my mom's place for a great taco dinner, and watched the Giants whomp on the Padres, 8-6

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? 5+Mega. That would have helped financially. Being hired by Colma's police department back in February would have been nice.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003? "It's sort of clean."

34. What kept you sane? Optimism.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? None really.

38. Who was the best new person you met? Everybody at Cost Plus

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003: I learned this one years ago, but it was reinforced. Keep pushing, never give up.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

You analyze me, attempt to despise me
And you laugh when I stumble and fall
There may come a day I will dance on your grave
If unable to dance I will crawl across it
Unable to dance I will crawl
Yeah, unable to dance I'll crawl

You imagine sipping champagne from your boot
For a taste of your elegant pride
I may be going to hell in a bucket
But at least I'm enjoying the ride
At least I'm enjoying the ride
Yeah at least I'm enjoying the ride
