Shake and Bake

97 years ago, some slipped deep beneath the Earth along the San Andreas fault, and San Francisco shook with an earthquake that measured well over 8 on the Richter scale. Best guess is it was an 8.2. After the shaking stopped, fires broke out that leveled half the city.

Within two years, we had rebuilt almost everything.

We're still waiting for the next Big One to hit.. and we'll rebuild after that one as well.

Well, the Library of Congress (http://loc.gov) has a page dedicated to the 1906 quake including a video (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:7:./temp/~ammem_Kjv4::) of the quake online. You might want to look at what they have there, too.
