I'll share a theory about why they've denied it so fervently even into the "here and now": there's sufficient numbers of people who think it should have worked back in the day when it was committed. That they didn't and don't see it as a crime worth damning the Ottoman regime for (unlike others)...and there's still plans for the Kurds.
