I am now older than all of you.

In case the dentures, cane, and having enough doctors to field a hockey shift weren't enough; today I had a hearing test. I've found it increasingly hard to hear the TV, what people around me are saying, and my watch evidently beeps on the hour. I can't hear it.

So today I shambled down to my second home at PAMF Mountain View for an audiology appointment. I was complemented on how clean my ears were, and the initial testing showed no gross physical damage like a ruptured eardrum or broken bones in the middle ear. We discussed my extremely loud history (weapons fire, driving trucks, and rock concerts) and continued the test.

The result? "Mild to severe high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss. Slightly worse in the right ear."

Now I have an appointment with an ENT for a hearing aid referral and a list of places that accept MediCal for hearing aids. Going back in January for another hearing test to see if this is getting worse.

I do find it funny that my hearing is worse on the right side. I guess all the weapons I fired in the Army did have an effect after all. Now I just need to find an old hearing horn for cons...

One good thing. Coming home, I didn't hit a single light from when I crossed California Ave in Sunnyvale until I had to stop to make the left turn onto Monroe a few blocks from home.
