The entire state is burning...

More than 800 fires are burning in the state right now, many sparked by a recent set of thunderstorms.

Right now, the only fires even remotely close to us are the Hummingbird Fire and the Whitehurst Fire, both in south county around Gilroy. The main effect on us has been smoke. The Bay Area is covered in a brownish haze, and its even worse out in the Stockton/Modesto area. At times, effective vision was down to about a quarter mile, and the quality of light.. well, I think I have an idea of what life under a K0v would be like.

Luckily, I don't have major respiratory or allergy issues. So I'm just dealing with a raw throat and watering eyes

Amazon fails its save.

Being an utter geek, I ordered the Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition rulebooks from Amazon.com. Along with getting all three books in a case, it was coming at a steep (nearly half-off) discount.

When I made the order on June 7th, I was given a shipping date of June 23rd. OK, I can get this. Probably a lot of people taking advantage of the offer, a new release, I was willing to deal.

Today, I check my order status, and my books are now shipping on August 1st. No explanation. Five weeks of slippage.

Screw them, I canceled the order. We'll go down to our local bookstore in a bit and spend a bit more to get the books in the house.

I'm getting tired of Amazon's cavalier attitude towards shipping.
