Until the top of the ninth.
Chicago White Sox: 13
San Francisco Giants: 8Good grief, everything happened in this game. We both loaded the bases in the 8th inning, home runs, bloop hits, diving catches.. a great, exciting game. Made all the better for it being my Mom's first visit to AT&T Park. Getting to show off our gem on the bay to fresh eyes was fun. My grandfather was a huge baseball fan going back to the days when the
Milwaukee Brewers were a minor league club, so mom is not a baseball neophyte. (
kshandra had an all-day Baycon meeting, so couldn't attend.)
I was there, so of course Matt Cain was pitching. He didn't hit a homerun this time.
This was the day that the heat wave decided to break. I, being an idiot, brought only a light windbreaker. To the Giants Dugout store! $75 later, and I own a new zippered Giants hoodie. The wind was pretty brisk, so I was thankful for it. The highlight in our section was the group that showed up topless/wearing sport bras, painted orange, with "SF GIANTS" painted, letter by letter, on their stomachs. They spent the entire game trying to get on the diamond vision screen. I managed to eat a hot dog without choking to death. We stayed until the Sox scored two runs in the top of the ninth, and then left by the O'Doul gate so we could see the statue of Marichal.
Great day in the sun. Our next game is Monday, June 16th against the Detroit Tigers.
Expect Cain to be on the mound.
On the train rides up and down I was brought up to date on all the family dramas and news. I learned two things: 1. I'm old. 2. I have somehow managed to become one of the more stable members of the extended family.
