LosCon 34 trip canceled.

After much consideration and re-budgeting, I've had to cancel my trip down to SoCal for LosCon 34. The costs were just a little too much for the trip. Sorry guys.

On cons...

OK, I suddenly feel the need to expand on that last post. Blame the beer and the penguin dancing to MegaDeth in front of me (thanks again, capplor, IC-Y has taken over our lives.)

I've been going to SF conventions of varying stripes for over a quarter century, dating back to Star Trek conventions in the 1970s. With the exception of my time in the service (when MAC flights made getting around the country, nay, the world, easy and cheap) I've been pretty much a local con goer.

I missed one TimeCon, and worked several. I've missed two BayCons. I went to all of the original run of SiliCon, and have been to a couple of the revived events (indeed, I'm scheduled as a panelist at this year's event.) Went to both Bay Area WorldCons (worked ConJose) and really enjoyed Westercon 60.

But I want more. I have made a few out of area cons; a few years back I was a panelist at OryCon, for example, but at this point I get the feeling that I'm a moderately large fish in our small Bay Area pond.

I want to go where everyone doesn't know my name.

Currently, I have my sights set on the 2009 WorldCon. Hopefully, Montreal will win because I know a few locals who can show us the cool places. But beyond that, I'd like to be able to make cons like LosCon, or TusCon, or even OryCon on at least a semi-regular basis. Now that we are scrabbling towards something resembling financial security, it might be possible.

But not his year.
