Writer's Block: A super debate

Green Lantern. Nearly unlimited possibilities based solely on my will and imagination vs. sticking to walls and being really strong and agile. Duh.

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

Well, that's the classic Silver Age version of the Green Lantern Oath. There are variations. One member of the Green Lantern Corps comes from a species that never evolved sight, so 90% of the concepts used are meaningless.. even that of a lantern! So the GL who recruited him worked out a new version...

In loudest din or hush profound
My ears catch evil's slightest sound
Let those who toll out evil's knell
Beware my power, the F-Sharp Bell!

I've always wondered if Rot Lop Fan (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/List_of_Green_Lanterns#Rot_Lop_Fan) every unknowingly encountered something yellow and got frustrated at his inability to affect it with the ring...

Silly penguin

Each GL has a different weakness, caused by a flaw in the construction of the ring.

That was a totally awesome Alan Moore story.

Yeah, but the science geek in me always wondered why you had to invent a "lightless region of space." Just say the species evolved without sight for some reason. A omnivore that evolved at the bottom of multiple canopy forest might not need sight in the deep gloom, especially if the local "sun" was a dim M-class or a Brown Dwarf. Incredible hearing, and a sensitivity to touch that includes subtle changes in air pressure.
