A few victories at a time.

One of the big points pressed in It's All Too Much!, the book that got me on my cleaning and decluttering jab long before we were evicted and had to move, is that a collection that can not be displayed and admired is not a collection, it's clutter. You could have the world's greast collection of Elvis commemorative plates, but if they're packed in boxes taking up closet space, why bother?

[livejournal.com profile] kshandra and I have several things that would qualify as collections, although we're not collectors in the traditional sense. We don't go out of our way to acquire certain things. But acquire we do, and now we can finally show off those collections with some very basic cleaning and organizational tricks.

Here there be dragons!

Most of Kirsten's collection of Pocket Dragons. Along with a very small bear riding a crochet dragon. The little pewter castle in the back was on our wedding cake a million years ago. The bumper sticker needs to go on my truck when I get the chance.

They're watching you...

About 75% of the penguins in this household. Now all lined up on top of my computer desk. These are the smaller birds. The big ones live in the bedroom. At top left you can see the edge of my old SuperShuttle tip sign.

Get your motor running...

Many years ago I asked for a Harley for Christmas. My mom got me the Playmobile character near the back. Since then my Christmas motorcycle has become a tradition. Not always a model, I've gotten H-D playing cards, a Chopper sweater, and other linked items.

The Jaegers would love this.

As anyone who knows me will attest, I'm rarely seen without a hat. Usually a Giants hat, but I've accumulated a bunch of them. Now they hang on the bathroom door to be viewed and admired. Don't worry, Kiri has one or two up there as well. Best hat? The one from the Flamingo in Las Vegas autographed by Tim Powers (just cut off at the top, above the 49ers cap.)

This place is almost livable. Alas, doing this little bit of work has completely wiped me out.
