Heavy Metal Sunday celebrates it's independence!

Happy 4th, every one! Now, if you'll all stand and please remove your hats, Zakk Wylde will perform our national anthem:

Since it's also my birthday, we're going off-genre a little for some classic Grateful Dead, the US Blues!

And finally, John Williams conducting the Boston Pops. The Stars and Stripes Forever

Happy Birthday, Sweetie, but damn that piccolo solo on the Stars and Stripes! I never could get it but it sure is beautiful to hear.

A good day to have a birthday on.

Gotta admit, I was expecting Jimi Hendrix.

Happy birthday, Yankee Doodle!

Let martial note in triumph float
And liberty extend its mighty hand
A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers,
The banner of the Western land.
The emblem of the brave and true
Its folds protect no tyrant crew;
The red and white and starry blue
Is freedom's shield and hope.

My favorite part was when John turned 'round and conducted *the audience* in their clapping! That was pure-d delightful!

Happy Birthday!

The smile on his face as they followed him was delightful. They get the best conductors.

Except he wasn't really metal. Awesome yes, but his style was far more blues-influenced psychedelic rock. I was frankly surprised at how many version of the anthem I found by good shredders. This was just the best of the lot.

Kirsten commented that getting it right on one piccolo is hard, coordinating three of them? Wow.

Marching to The Stars and Stripes Forever on July 4th in Columbus, GA, remains one of my fondest Army memories. Mainly because of the little boys lining the route staring in slack-jawed awe and envy at the soldier. I knew exactly how they felt.
