The end. An era? not really, but it is still a sucky moment.
When they killed Different Worlds I said nothing, for the publisher had changed and it had gone downhill.
When they killed Shadis I said nothing, for the articles had gotten so esoteric even I didn't get them.
When they killed Inphobia I said nothing, for I was too busy laughing my ass off at the morons who thought it was a good idea.
When they killed Dragon I said nothing, for I didn't play D&D..
But now that they are killing Pyramid, I find myself at a loss for words. No more Supressed Transmission? No more Murphy's Rules? Even worse, the death of the sjgames.* NNTP groups. I loathe web-based forums. I like threading, message retention, and the idea that once I download a message it stays on my system. I have some Usenet pieces that are years old that I still reference.
Of course, they're not really killing it, but reinventing it. It's now going to be monthly PDF. No, thanks. Storage space, even when we get the new computer, is a problem with those, and unless you do them right, they can screw up everything.
So I, who has been reading Pyramid since issue one, just emailed for a refund of my subscription.

I got my sub with MIB points, but I also upped for 2 years with my last 2 points, I'd like to know how that's going to be handled.
It ST that kept me coming back.

Slightly Annoying...
I'm going to enjoy the PDFs as much as I can...

I'm right there on this one. Really.
Roger Burton West has said that he's planning on setting up a NNTP server to replace the SJGames one. I'm doing/have done the same for the JTAS side - and where they're common, we're probably going to peer. Drop me a note in email every so often, and I'll keep you posted - and that goes for anyone else who has an interest in this issue.

Take the chance to download all the back issues while you can. They've promised a set of HTML archives, so it should be pretty easy to burn them onto a CD or DVD.

I don't see it as a bad move, myself. Maybe cause I never got on the PDFs sucks bandwagon.
