[livejournal.com profile] kshandra rocks my world.

Last night she brought me a few early gifts.

First of, I got The Jewel of the Nile on DVD. This nicely compliments my copy of Romancing the Stone. Since these are two of my favorite films, this makes me very happy.

But she also found a two-pack on sale that reminds me why I love her so much. Hold on to your sombrero, [livejournal.com profile] docwebster, because we now own Robot Monster and Plan 9 From Outer Space! The Plan 9 DVD includes the documentary Flying Saucers Over Hollywood: The Plan 9 Companion

Huh. While noodling around IMDB just now, I find that Forrie Ackerman was in the Thriller video. He's listed as a zombie in the final frame.

This makes up for the Giants losing to the Dodgers (spit) last night.

Huzzah!

Sammi the Bull, our poor broken Ford Taurus, is finally on it's way to the shop! Just watched her get hooked up and pulled away.

At the very least, she needs a new alternator and starter. But since we can afford it, and we need a car to survive, we're doing it now. Might need a new battery, but the tow-truck driver evidently found a charge in there.

We also got to play with out new toys, a set of Motorola T4900 Talkabout radios. We can't afford cell phones, and being able to keep in contact while I'm out riding or whatever is a nice thing. Theoretically, they have a range of three miles. So far, we've tested them to about a mile.

Work called. Wanted to know if I wanted to come in this afternoon. 0_o Hello? I requested this day off weeks ago. I'm going to the Giants game tonight! Tomorrow, I don't answer the phone.

In even better news, the fever broke last night. So I'm ready to go see my Giants whup some A's butt!

They must be MINE!

A crate of Martin-Henry rifles has been found in Nepal, and is up for sale.

These are the rifles that my great-grandfather, Drum-Major Jack Berry, first used when he was in the Devonshire Regiment . (Yes, he was a bandsman.. he also served in India and in the Boer War.. his medals (which I own) include campaign bars for the Siege of Ladysmith and Elandslaagte)

Excuse me?

Nader backers abandon bid to get candidate on Arizona ballot

Supporters of Ralph Nader on Friday abandoned their effort to get the independent candidate on the presidential ballot in Arizona after Democrats challenged the validity of thousands of signatures.

The Nader campaign had submitted over 22,000 signatures, far in excess of the 14,694 needed. But Democrats challenged the count, saying up to 70% of the signatures weren't valid. After a preliminary investigation, the secretary of state's office put Nader 550 shy of the requirement. Let's do math!

22,000 = the claimed amount.

14,694 = the required amount

14,144 = the number verified by the state.

Kids, this shows that on just a quick look 7,856 signatures were invalidated... or a *third* of the total! That goes way beyond the probability or errors into wild fabrication land. Ghu knows what they'd find on a deeper investigation.

"We withdrew after elections officials came out with us being 550 signatures short," said Nader campaign spokesman Kevin Zeese. "There's no question that deep-pocketed Democrats don't have much of a sense of fair play."

"Fair play"? Like collecting valid signatures?
