The All-Important Baseball Report #4, the end of May Edition!
At the end of May, the Giants are 34-20, and hold a 3.5 game lead of the Dodgers. This was not a kind month for the San Francisco nine, as we had to deal with anemic offense, poor relief pitching, and several injuries to key players. But everyone seems to be healthy again, and we closed out the month with a strong 4 game win streak.
Felipe Alou has tweaked the line up, and the current Marquis Grissom - Ray Durham 1-2 punch is providing excellent speed and scoring at the top of the order. Bonds continues to hit well, with a .298 average, even if he isn't cranking out the home runs like we're used to him doing (13 so far this season.)
Last night:
San Francisco Giants: 2
Colorado Rockies: 1
Jesse Foppert, one of our rookie pitchers was the story of this game. Previously 0 for 15 at the plate, he came up with Alfonzo at third and one out.. and ripped a stand up triple to the 421-foot marker in center-right. Two batters later he strolled home on a Ray Durham single. All of a sudden, he has a batting average and a RBI. Not to mention a run of his own. Pretty rare for a pitcher to provide all of the runs in a game.
One of our biggest problems is the lack of clutch hitting. We simply have proven unable to get the important hits when men are in scoring position. This has improved slightly over the last week, but it needs to get better, and soon!
We start interleague play Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins. Sorry
femakita but the Giants are going to roll!
GO GIANTS!
